The Roastery Report, May 2024 Edition: What's Been Happening At Kea Coffee This Month

The Roastery Report, May 2024 Edition: What's Been Happening At Kea Coffee This Month

We're already mid way through May and Spring is well and truly upon us!

The last couple of weeks have been super busy here at Kea Coffee, and we're stoked to share some updates on all of the exciting projects and plans that we've been brewing up.

What's on the bar right now?

First of all, let's chat about the really important stuff: What are we enjoying drinking right now?

Spring here in BC has been epic so far. Warm, sunny, dry days and cool mornings and evenings.

Around this time of year we're usually starting to switch into summer mode, where fruity, light and juicey coffees start to take over the brew bar.

We've got a few great Ethiopian naturals on right now that are bringing the sweetness and acidity that Spring demands.

It's still a bit too early for the cold brews (although those days are coming fast), but something like this juicey sweet Sidama from Nguisse Nare is going down a treat on V60.

We're also loving this washed Columbian from Narino as an espresso base for a great cortado or latte. The caramel notes go so well with a nice thick milk body, with some soft red apple cutting gently through at the end. Best enjoyed in some good morning sunshine.

Lots of new coffee content!

We've been busy pottering away to bring you more awesome coffee content this month, with the launch of our new Farm Stories series, a comparison of conical Vs flat bottom brewers, a coffee science deep dive on the science of why freshly ground coffee is better than pre ground coffee, a run down on one of our favourite brewers - the Aeropress, and more!

We're also working on a huge coffee analysis study that should be ready for release later this Spring. We're not quite ready to lift the lid on the details on this just yet, but it's shaping up to be a very interesting study, so stay tuned for more on that in the coming months.

Also coming soon are our detailed brew guides, where we'll share some of our favourite go-to recipes for various different brewers.

If that all sounds like stuff that lights your kettle up, don't forget to subscribe to our newsletter so you don't miss a post.

Kea Coffee Club launches

One thing that's really important to us here at Kea, is community.

From the start, it's always been our goal to find new ways to share our love for great coffee, with other great people who love it too.

This blog, and our website in general, are a small part of that.

The Kea Coffee Club is the next big piece in the puzzle.

It's the place where we can share all of the coffee geekery bits that don't quite fit neatly into a blog post or a web page.

We'll be sharing regular short updates about what we're working on, things we've found or read or watched that were interesting and other exclusive, members only content. Members also get early access to new releases, as well as occasional subscriber only sales and promotions.

New Explore: series is now available

The very first instalment of our exciting new Explore: series is now live and available while stocks last.

This first release takes us on a deep dive into Ethiopia, with 3 great naturals from different regions of the true birthplace of coffee.

Get yours here while you can, supply is limited!

Aside from aaalll of that, we're also busy sourcing new exciting lots to share with you this Spring and into Summer.

We've got an awesome Paraiso natural from Brazil coming up soon that's packing lots of blood orange, lime and tropical papaya notes. We're super excited for that one and as the weather starts to warm up, we'll be adding more refreshing coffees like this one to the line up.

So that's a little peak behind the curtain here at Kea Coffee Roasters.

It's certainly been a busy start to the Spring season, but we're loving the pace and are super excited for what's in store.

If you enjoyed this update, don't forget to subscribe to the Kea Coffee Club to stay in the loop or check back here to the blog regularly, as we'll be sharing more updates just like this throughout the year.

Until then, happy brewing everyone!
