5 reasons why the Aeropress is a great coffee brewer for making better coffee at home

Why We Love Brewing With Aeropress

The Aeropress is easily one of our favourite brewers here at Kea HQ.

It's been our go-to for years, and it's still the brewer we usually reach for first when trying out a new coffee.

With the right recipe and a fine enough grind setting, you can get high, well balanced extractions quickly and relatively easily.

Or... coarsen your grind up a bit for a really clean, bright cup with high clarity.

Whatever you're looking for in your cup, there's an Aeropress recipe to get you there.

Aside from how versatile it is and all the different cup profiles it can get you to, there's a few other reasons why this little gem is a Kea Coffee favourite.

Today, we're going to dive into a few of them.

1) It wants you to experiment

You can get to good coffee relatively easily, quickly and reliably with an Aeropress.

And that's great.

But with an immersion brew method like the Aeropress, you have full control over all of the main variables - much more so than you do with percolation.

It's a device where you can tweak, fiddle and experiment as much as you want.

There's even entire websites dedicated to sharing hundreds of different Aeropress recipes. So if you stuck for ideas on what to test out next, check this out.

2) It's relatively easy to master

Sometimes though, you don't want to experiment.

You just want to have a couple of good go to recipes and know that you can get a great cup from whatever beans you're brewing.

Because you control the brew time directly, you're not relying on having such fine tuned control of your pour technique.

It's just you, a timer and a grind setting.

3. It's highly consistent and repeatable

The same things that make it easy to master, also make it highly consistent and easily repeatable.

We love pourover too, don't get us wrong, but as a brew method it can be a bit ... finicky ... sometimes.

With immersion brewing, you're not at the mercy of draw down times that can be adversely effected by changes in pour technique from brew to brew. Or fines migration causing clogged or stalled brews.

You press the plunger. So you decide exactly what the brew time gets to be, and you can adjust that time easily up or down to dial in.

4. You can grind fine and get high extractions fast

And because we love lighter roasted coffees, we don't need to worry about over extraction quite so much.

Tasty coffee in less time.

Yes please!

5. It's low cost

This is another big reason why we find ourselves recommending the Aeropress to anyone who's just starting out on their coffee journey.

Aeropress is probably the cheapest way to brew better coffee at home.

You can usually pick them up for $40 - $50 and you don't need anything else to start brewing awesome coffee.

No fancy gooseneck kettle.

Just some great single origin coffee beans, some way to heat water up, and a timer.
